James, I'm sorry to hear about this trial. I can't even begin to imagine the feelings that are happening in you as this goes on. I'll pray for you.

The first thing that came to mind as I read your story is the account of Hosea. Now, I'm not trying to comment on the character of your wife by this analogy, please understand. It is just that I'm reminded that our God loves us yet we fail to return the devotion back so much of the time. If our Husband, Jesus, can take us, his bride, back after wandering and unfaithfulness, then we must be willing to forgive those we love who are not so loving back. I hope that is encouragement for you when you want to love your wife but all those around you tell you to cut her loose and stop being the "fool".

Of course, nothing on this earth in this age is a perfect example of God's character or his love. Marriages do come to an end. People do stop loving each other because we are fallen creatures. No one can blame you if you make an honest try to salvage your marriage.

Trust in the Lord to be your strength, to be your comfort and to be your friend. God is with you during the darkest moments of this trial. Hang in there. I will be praying for you.

email me if you want to talk more.
